The final painting in The Bird Dream emerged from a dream of a rainbow-feathered bird and takes its title from T. S. Eliot’s Burnt Norton. After a body of work concerned with suspended time, repetition, confinement, and mortality, the painting introduces velocity. Feather-like marks, seaweed shapes, saturated colour, and directional movement push outward across the surface, leaving the bird less an illustration than an apparition in motion, perhaps underwater.
