Mu Moue: Pleasure, Pattern, and Place is a cycle of six acrylic paintings made in 2026. Each painting gathers flowers, fruit, herbs, and vegetables associated with a different moment in the Okanagan growing year. Observed botanical forms are reorganized into dense, fabric-like fields that recall toile, wallpaper, illuminated manuscripts, and Asian and European decorative arts. The title pairs mu—a Zen refusal of easy answers—with moue, the French word for a pout: contemplation meeting irreverence.

The series begins at the height of summer, turns through harvest and early winter, sleeps through the coldest months, then loosens into spring and thickens once more toward abundance. Metallic passages shift as viewers move past the works, allowing the paintings to appear differently under changing light.

I was born in western Canada and returned in 2021. Making these paintings has been a way of entering into relationship with a familiar landscape again: learning what grows here, when it arrives, and how agricultural abundance circulates through gardens, markets, and kitchens.

The series is both a celebration and a love letter to the life I have made in Kelowna.
