Southern Alberta, Goodbye

$6,000.00

2007
Oil on canvas
60 × 60 in

Painted following a return to Medicine Hat after the death of the artist’s stepfather, Southern Alberta, Goodbye turns the prairie landscape into a place of departure as much as belonging. Broad land, open sky, and distance carry the emotional weight without requiring the landscape to become illustrative of grief.

The title holds both geography and leave-taking: an attachment to Southern Alberta complicated by loss, memory, and the recognition that a familiar place can become permanently altered by what has happened there.
